Louis Hornyak, Author and Speaker
Louis Hornyak received his Ph.D. from Colorado State University in materials chemistry in 1997. Following a stint in Germany at the University of Essen and five years at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado, Dr. Hornyak accepted a position as a research professor in the physics department at the University of Denver. He is currently affiliated with the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado in a joint business venture. He is the VP of Synthesis for NanoThread, Inc., the spin-off company from the school.  As founder and executive director of the Colorado Nanotechnology Initiative from 2003 to the summer of 2005, Dr. Hornyak built an extensive network of contacts in government, business and academia. He is also the author of Introduction to Nanoscience and  Introduction to Nanotechnology, texts that will be published by Taylor & Francis Books in 2008. An avid bird watcher and environmentalist, Dr. Hornyak looks forward to participating on the advisory board of this Costa Rica Enterprise.




Laura Danley, PhD, American Museum of Natural History
Laura Danley was an astronomer for ten years at NASA's Hubble Space Telescope Science Institute, where she was also the Project Scientist for Education. She came to Denver in 1998, where she held a joint appointment as the first Curator of Space Sciences at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (then the Denver Museum of Natural History) and as an assistant professor at the University of Denver. She left DMNS in 2003, but stayed at DU where this past year she's been a Senior Fellow of the Honors Program. Laura is currently the Senior Manager, Astrophysics Education, Rose Center for Earth and Space, at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.

Laura is the author of the beautiful book Chaos to Cosmos: A Space Odyssey.






Gavin Maurer, National Geographic
Gavin Maurer is the Senior Director of Marketing for National Geographic Maps. He has lived and traveled in Central America and is fluent in Spanish. Gavin believes in responsible resource management, conservation, and enjoyment and use of great national lands and destinations. He believes in respect for, and practice of environmentally responsible principles.




Tom Frey, The Davinci Institute

Thomas Frey is one of the nations leading experts on the process of launching new businesses and new technologies. As the Executive Director of the DaVinci Institute he has helped dozens of inventors and entrepreneurs work through the process to launch their products.

Tom is also an internationally recognized futurist, author, and public speaker. His specialty is the future of technology and its impact on business and society. He is a 15-year veteran of IBM where he received more awards than any other engineer - over 270. His leading edge presentations have captivated people throughout the business world, including NASA, IBM, AT&T, Hewlett-Packard, Lucent Technologies, Boeing, Ford Motor Company, Allied Signal, Hunter Douglas, Direct TV, and many more.

Tom is the author of "Inventions of Impact" and has written numerous articles on a wide range of futurist topics. He has also been a contributing writer for The Futurist Magazine and is the producer of the Impact Lab emerging technology eZine. One of his current projects is the development of a "Future Inventions Museum" to be located in the Denver metro area.






Jack Ewing, Hacienda Baru
Jack Ewing, arrived in 1972 at Hacienda Baru, Costa Rica and has been responsible for the transformation of this former cattle ranch into one of Costa Rica's crown jewels of restoration projects: the Hacienda Baru National Wildlife Refuge, Costa Rica.


Amy and Fred Morgan of Finca Leola
Couple from the United States who relocated to Northern Costa Rica a few years ago. Experts in reforestation and tree investments. Fred spent more than 25 years involved in business and technology and is applying that experience to creating reforestation plantations in Costa Rica that lead into perpetual forests. Amy has edited works on ecology and forestry in Costa Rica.

Many people are excited about what Fred and Amy are doing because it appears that they and their staff of experts are coming up with new models for solving the problems in reforestation-see their article here.

Randall Chaves Randall is a Costa Rican native and avid environmentalist who owns and operates Costa Rica Nature Journeys with his wife, Harmony on the South Pacific coastal area of Costa Rica.

Eliette Artavia Eliettte is a Costa Rican native who is an educator in biology and ecology in the formal Educational system in Costa Rica. During the last 13 years she has focused on environmental education in rural areas, training local naturalist guides to identify and promote conservation of the natural resources. She has great experience in organizing communities, groups, and schools.
