"Lot A" may become a Sustainable
Reforestation/Futures Center
This piece of land on the mother farm is mostly forested
and has a very large 360 degree valley-view building
spot. There is a seasonal waterfal in the panormic view
to the south. I am looking for an environmentalist partner
who may wish to develop this piece with me. An architect
with experience in green design is currently working
on a concept design drawing.
This building could have sleeping rooms for up to four
people on each of three view sides. In the center could
be the common area with a kitchen and the sustainable
futures library, video center, and and models. Ideally,
everything in this center will be available in both
English and Spanish. We also may be able to get a telescope
donated. It could be a fun place for families of the
investors and others to come visit and relax, study
sustainable reforestation, and contemplate the planet's
future in this tranquil, multicultural setting.
Because an onsite manager is important for any Costa
Rican project where the owners may not be present year-round,
one of the three sleeping room areas could be reserved
for a Tico family to reside and help manage the farm.
The other two sleeping rooms could be available for
weekly rentals to guests.
This sort of attraction may have a unique appeal to
those visiting Costa Rica, as well as Costa Rican tourists.
It could offer a comfortable environment to those who
have children who have been raised in a high tech western
lifestyle. The family would find things there they are
familiar with, like computers, books, and videos. Because
the items will be in both English and Spanish, it will
also be a great place for those wanting to improve their
language skills.
The book and video items will all be geared towards
environmental values that will reinforce sustainability
principals, reforestation benefits, timber use, and
bio diversity. For example, we will have videos there
such as "The Day After Tomorrow", books such
as the college textbook "Environmental Science:
Creating a Sustainable Future (6th ed)", and even
video games that help teach resource management, such
as SimCity, Tropico, or SimEarth.
One suggestion by a board member is to consider not
just a "Sustainable Futures Center" but perhaps
a broader "Alternative Futures Center" with
the theme of "Views From Outer Space to Inner Space".
As you can see, there is plenty of room for input from
investors in the farm on how this project will take
shape.
There will also likely be grant money available for
this endeavor. Additionally, the Costa Rican government
strongly supports such projects and provides legal residency
incentives for investors.
